| Homework for ESOL Children |
The children have worked at school all day and will progress better with their English if they have lots of opportunities to talk about their experiences. After school they will be tired and children do not learn well when they are tired.
Half an hour of structured homework is all they should be doing after school.
If the children work too hard at night with their homework they will be tired the next day and won't be able to learn as well when they are at school.
The children succeed if they believe that they are making progress. It is important that you praise them for what they are doing well. It is also important that you do not focus on what they can't do.
Children learn better when they are actively doing things and their work has a purpose. Worksheets do not help the children with learning English as much as talking about experiences does.
